Video: Commander calls on Senate to pass toxic-exposure relief
American Legion National Commander Paul E. Dillard is calling on all members of the nation’s largest veterans organization to contact their U.S. Senate delegations to urge a vote and passage of comprehensive legislation that would provide VA health-care services and disability benefits for veterans exposed to contamination during the service.

The Honoring Our Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics Act passed the House in March, and a Senate vote is expected before Memorial Day. The measure would provide Priority Group 6 status for more than 3.5 million veterans exposed to toxic contamination, including burn pits in Iraq and Afghanistan. It also expands the list of conditions associated with Agent Orange exposure, acknowledges illnesses suffered among veterans exposed to atomic radiation and toxic water at Camp Lejeune.
